Sara De La Torre Duron, age 71, of Spreckels, California, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, at her family residence in Hemet, California. Sara was born on September 15, 1954, in Salinas, California. She graduated from Salinas High School and later dedicated 27 years of hard work to the State of California, eventually retiring as a Senior Tax Compliance Officer.
Notably, Sara was one of the original authors of the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). She traveled throughout the country researching the language to be used for the FMLA and lobbied throughout the state for its passage, leaving behind a lasting professional legacy that helped countless families.
Beyond her impressive career, Sara was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a massive heart for children and loved traveling, cooking, and taking trips to the casino. Sara is survived by her loving husband, Ruben; her daughter, Cynthia; and her cherished grandchildren, Alexander, Victoria, and Jonah. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Teresa, and her son, Fernando.
