Stephen Patrick Simpkin

February 14, 1976 – February 20, 2024

Stephen Patrick Simpkin, 48, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on February 20, 2024, in Corona, California.

Born on Valentine’s Day 1976 in Torrance, California, Steve was the first son of Larry and Sue Simpkin (Morris). He was raised in a large and tight-knit family in Huntington Beach, playing baseball, soccer, and achieving the rank of Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts Troop 134. Steve graduated from Marina High School in 1994. His lifelong passion for collecting baseball cards began as a hobby he shared with his father.

Steve owned a valet parking service for many years at Nico’s Restaurant in Long Beach. He went on to work in the wine business, created a mobile gaming sports app, MOEO, and was a grader in the baseball card trading industry.

He was a loving father to his two children, Diego and Olliana Simpkin, and a supportive partner to his longtime girlfriend, Sandra Hanna. In recent years, Steve was a doting stay-at-home dad to Olliana, serving as her soccer team’s assistant coach. He and Sandra enjoyed taking their daughter on family trips to Yosemite National Park.

Steve will be remembered for his fun-loving personality, sharp sense of humor, and love for sports, the Angels, and music — especially reggae, Radiohead, Muse, The Simpkin Project, Neil Diamond, classic Rat Pack music, jazz, and Christmas music (his favorite holiday).

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tom and Dottie Simpkin (McKinney) and Don and Sally Morris (Welles); and uncles Tom and Jack Simpkin. He is survived by his life partner; his children; his parents; his siblings Leslie Simpkin Corea, Jennifer (Larry) Isaacs, Andrew Simpkin, Phil Simpkin, and Dave Simpkin; and nieces and nephews Sara Burgos, Noah Isaacs, Hannah Isaacs, and Matthew Simpkin.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on March 19 at 12 p.m. at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, 16400 Springdale Street, Huntington Beach, CA 92649. A reception will immediately follow.

A celebration of life will be held on April 6 at 11 a.m. at Crossroads Christian Church, 2331 Kellogg Avenue, Corona, CA 92881. A reception and lunch will immediately follow.
